EMF 2025 BY THE NUMBERS

The 2025 Edmonton Mural Fest was our most ambitious and community-driven year yet. As we continue to grow Alberta’s presence on the international mural stage, this year’s festival delivered more murals, more artists, more activations, and deeper community engagement than ever before. Here’s a look at the year by the numbers and what made 2025 such a landmark year for EMF.

Fifteen New Murals Across the City

In 2025 EMF produced 15 mural projects, each one contributing to a more vibrant, connected, and expressive Edmonton. These works were shaped through meaningful partnerships and a community-focused approach that celebrates both local creativity and national perspectives.

A Festival Powered by Artists

This year EMF worked with 17 mural artists total, including:

  • 15 Canadian artists

    • Representing Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, Montreal, and Canmore

  • One artist from Austin, Texas

  • One artist from Spain

With an artist roster reflecting diversity and representation:

  • Fourteen female artists

  • Three Indigenous artists

    • 2 Alberta / 1 British Columbia

  • Seven male artists

  • Two LGBTQ+ artists

Supporting equity-seeking artists remains a core part of our curatorial vision, and 2025 showcased the strength and creativity of artists from across Canada and beyond.

“The artists this year were outstanding, rising to every challenge and doing it with a smile. It was the most ambitious year yet and 17 mural artists helped reshape the streetscapes of Edmonton. ” - Marcus Coldeway, Creative Director and Curator.

Public art is most powerful when it brings people together. In 2025 EMF delivered twenty-two community activations, ranging from mural unveilings to immersive tours, workshops, and partner events.

Highlights include collaborations with:

  • The Edmonton Fringe Theatre Festival

  • Purple City Festival

These partnerships strengthened our connection to Edmonton’s broader cultural community and created new opportunities for audiences to experience public art in fresh and exciting ways.

Building Community Through BIAs

EMF partnered with four Business Improvement Areas across Edmonton to support public art and cultural vibrancy within their districts.

This included:

  • Four BIA wall calls

  • Three BIA mural tours, with two completely sold out

These tours brought hundreds of people into local neighbourhoods, celebrating the murals while supporting local businesses, food scenes, and walkable cultural experiences.

Looking Ahead

The 2025 Edmonton Mural Fest was a powerful reminder of what creativity, collaboration, and community can achieve. Every mural, every partnership, and every event contributed to a city that celebrates art as a shared public experience.

As we prepare for 2026 and the launch of our updated artist application process, we are energized by the momentum of this year and grateful to everyone who helped make it possible.

Onwards, Edmonton. The walls are waiting.
